Fashion Scoop: Fashion Night Out Dates Confirmed, Balenciaga Sues Steve Madden...

Ready For VFNO
Let the Fashion Fun begin!
Cities around the world have begun confirming dates for the sixth edition of Vogue Fashion’s Night Out, now a staple shopping and charity event. In Italy, Rome and Milan will be hosting VFNO on Sept. 11 and 16 respectively. Other cities on the agenda include Berlin, Düsseldorf, Madrid, London, Tokyo and Osaka, among many.
Noting the event attracts thousands of visitors each year — in Italy in 2013, attendance hit 250,000 — Vogue Italy editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani said VFNO was also “an occasion to support concrete projects benefiting the host cities and communities.”

Last year in Milan, funds collected from the sale of special limited edition fashion products were used to revamp an athletic field and adjoining facilities for children in the city’s Quarto Oggiaro area. Source: WWD

Balenciaga VS. Steve Madden

Balenciaga really doesn't like Steve Madden AT ALL! In another case of who stole what from whom; the fashion giant is suing accessories designer Steve Madden for a bag that it says bears a little too close a resemblance to one of its own. Madden's Btalia bag, which retails for under $90, is a "studied copy" of Balenciaga's Motorcycle bag, the label claims, and has several key features that are likely to cause confusion for consumers.
"The flat pouch with a zippered rectangular closure, a zipper pull consisting of a strip centrally knotted and hanging in two equal lengths, and a semi-elliptical patch outfitted with two raised studs in each corner; and two identical patches in an elongated pentagonal shape, featuring an elongated hexagonal patch outfitted with a buckle and two raised studs," The Fashion Law explains, are all features of the Motorcycle bag that when copied create a "false impression" for customers, Balenciaga claims.
The lawsuit - which came to light last week when it was filed at Manhattan's District Court - is not the first that the Paris-based house has launched against the American designer. The company, then helmed by Nicolas Ghesquiere but now overseen by Alexander Wang, filed a complaint against Madden for "intentionally copying" its multi-coloured Lego heels from the autumn/winter 2007 collection. Reem Acra Designs Uniforms for the American University of Beirut Medical Center

Reem Acra has had a lifetime connection to the American University of Beirut Medical Center: She was born at the hospital in the Lebanese capital, and spent her childhood days running in its halls, as her mother worked in its Family Medicine Departent and her father served as chairman of the Department of Environmental Health. Her brother, Sari Acra, even studied medicine there. Now the designer, who is based in New York, is giving back to the hospital by creating uniforms for its staff, which were just unveiled. “The AUBMC is near and dear to my heart,” Acra said. “[It] played a major role in my life in Beirut, so I am honored to have the opportunity to design and produce these elegant uniforms, to aid in recognizing a staff that is at the heart of this caring institution.”
