Reliving Carmen Jones

Nothing better than a little trip throught the ages to celebrate fashion by one of my all time favorite actress Dorothy Dandridge in Carmen Jones!.
Dorothy Dandridge’s Carmen first shows up in a fire-orange pencil skirt (it splits conveniently in front to allow free movement during the vicious catfight that ensues shortly after her arrival) and a low-cut black blouse with transparent short sleeves. Her trademark hoop earrings, sported throughout the film, are perhaps a subtle nod to Bizet’s heroine, who was, you may recall, a cigarette girl in Seville.

I found a few outfits from the movie that I liked and tried to recreate them for you;

(1) Valentino patent pencil skirt, $2,690; net-a-porter.com (2) Ippolita 18K gold long hoop earrings, $2,495; saksfifthavenue.com (3) Vince Camuto Tribal Fusion bangles in gold, $68 for set of five; nordstrom.com (4) Simone Rocha tinsel top, $890; net-a-porter.com (5) Oscar de la Renta Spanish sequin-embellished mule, $575; neimanmarcus.com

A more glamorous look;

(1) Zac Posen twisted detail dress, $2,290; farfetch.com (2) Santi gray flowers clutch, $212; shopbop.com (3) Alexander McQueen jacquard full dress, $4,640;farfetch.com (4) Ippolita Goddess hoop earrings, $295; nordstrom.com (5) Gorjana Hampton scarf in Navy, $70; simplysoles.com
