Dhaher Bin Dhaher: Tola Perfumes

After meeting the talented Dhaher Bin Dhaher, founder of Tola perfumes at Buzzart Ramadan Event in FA Gallery on Monday night, I had a one on one with him to find out the mind behind such a massively successful brand.

Hailing from a background of highly innovative businessmen and women it came as no surprise that Dhaher has uniquely channeled his cultural identity to present TOLA perfumes to the world.  From a very early age, Dhaher experimented with mixing fragrances to achieve his desired signature scents and over the years it came into shape as his own story through Tola perfumes.

In his own words ”the concept is about gifting, making the world population experience Arabic culture from a new artistic perspective as well as sharing my lifestyle through scents”.

There are many exciting projects happening all around Dhaher at the moment, such as the opening of Tola perfumery in Jumeriah Dubai which will boost of in-house labs and give clients a glimpse of how Tola scents are perfected.   August sees the attendance of this Emirati jewel exhibiting at the renowned perfume fair “Elements” in New York City.  And here at Glamchickuwait, we are so happy to have hot off the press news that Mr Bin Dhaher is the first EVER Emirati to participate in the world recognized Pittim Magine Fragrance Exhibition in Florence in September 2013!

Tola is already stocked exclusively at Selfridges in London, a niche perfume store in Paris and another in Hungary.   Not bad for a brand that was only launched in March 2013.  Of course not overlooking the fact that its branding identity took Dhaher three years to develop.

When asked what fragrance means to him, he simply said, “Fragrance is about my mood, my geographic location, season and weather. The fragrance I wear is influenced by these elements. That explains why I don’t have a specific favorite scent from my own line of perfumes. I wear whatever smells and feels good to me at that particular time”. Although he reckons that in the GCC the musk fragrance from Tola Perfumes is undeniably the most popular.
With an intense understanding of the science that goes into any perfume, Dhaher was not afraid to share that, “Perfume is a means of communication; scents can trigger emotions and memories creating stories within stories”. Which is why he suggested that since fragrances react differently to each of our individual skin it is perhaps best to apply it in areas where your body may give the best reaction like the neck and wrist.

With such a young brand doing so incredibly well internationally, one had to ask when it will hit the stores in Kuwait so we can all enjoy being a precious gem in Tola, he shyly smiled and said they are currently exploring opportunities in Kuwait and other regions. And with the media maven and Global PR guru Tara Sillery behind him there is no doubt that Tola be a globally recognised name in the foreseeable future.

I personally cannot wait to get my hands on one of the exclusive scents in the Tola family, I smelled a few and no wonder the world is taken by Tola perfumes, it’s quite unbelievable that such a strong concept was birthed in the Middle East- It’s not just a logo, it’s not just a business, it’s a BRAND; a brand with an artistic and skillfully crafted scents.
