CHIC SCOOP: Do You Know Damir Doma?

I don't think anyone saw him coming...someone for all local designers and multi-brand boutique's to keep an eye on.
AS renowned trade show Pitti's latest guest designer,Damir Doma's star is on the rise. The designer, who shows his simple, elegant collections during Paris Fashion Week, hopes to target a new market through the Florence-based event.
Raised in Germany, Doma studied fashion in Belgium and went on to train under Raf Simons in Antwerp - who he describes as "one of the most intelligent people I've ever met". In 2007, he moved to Paris to launch his own label - originally starting with menswear, before launching a women's line three years later.
"With men's, it was much easier," he admitted. "I design for myself. It's taken me the past three seasons to define the womenswear and who wears it. I'm very inspired by chic French women. For them, style is not just about clothes, but to do with an attitude and the way that they live and move. I always think to myself, 'Is it effortless? Is it elegant?'"
Despite his desire to grow his business, Doma has no intention of following in the footsteps of his peers and seeking investment from luxury conglomerates. He has also resisted job offers from more established brands, although is far too discreet to give names.
"They wanted me to do devote 60 to 70 per cent of my time to working on their brand," he said of the preposition. "It was never my goal to work for someone else. I want to build my own label. When I launched my company with my business partners - we had the same vision and still do, to create something new, something that 100 per cent belongs to me."
The label's appeal has been far-reaching, with stars including Rihanna, Rosario Dawson and Robert Pattinson all having worn his clothes. LVMH head of strategy recently compared the designer to a young Armani - a compliment Doma couldn't be happier with.
"Armani is my idol," he said. "I was so happy when I read that. He creates luxurious, simple elegance and that's been so important to me and to so many other designers. And he's done it himself and still has complete control of his company."
