Beauty Bar: Food On Your Face

Exfoliation 101

Our recession proof beauty tutorials continue this week, with the much needed facial scrub.
So if your skin is dull, oily, ageing and it feels like over the counter products are not working? Its time you exfoliate and scrub your way to fresher and younger skin.
Exfoliation is the removal of dead skin cells on the outer layer of the skin.
Exfoliation is a deep cleanse that helps:

·         Unclog pores which allows your skin to breath
·         Keeps skin clear and reduces breakouts
·         Allows for better product penetration
·         Evens out uneven skin tone
·         Slows down ageing and
·         Exposes the hair follicles, this allows for a better shave for both men and women

For the face, exfoliate once a week (twice for oily skin), after cleansing your face. Exfoliation should be followed by a face mask, toner and moisturizer.
Add sugar or grounded coffee seeds to virgin organic olive oil for a quick face scrub.

Facial Scrub at home

Basic Oatmeal Facial Scrub
·         2 teaspoons ground oatmeal
·         1 teaspoon baking soda
·         Water
Mix ingredients together to form a paste. Apply to the face in a circular motion and rinse off when done.

Exfoliating Mask
·         Banana
·         Papaya
·         Kiwi
·         Pineapple
·         Peach
·         Yogurt or honey

Select one or more of the above fruits, mash it up in a blender and add a small amounts of either yogurt or honey. Apply on to the skin and leave on till the mask dries up. Rinse off, tone and moisturize the skin.

Fruits contain hydroxyl acid compounds that attach dead skin cells together which are then removes when the mask dries up.Smoothies have more than one use. *wink*
